The Meadows Primary Academy

Sowing the Seeds of Success

Welcome to our music page.

"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, and life to everything" (Plato)

At the Meadows Primary Academy we believe that every child should be encouraged to believe in themselves and to have high aspirations this is no different in music lessons.  We aim for children to develop a love of music, developing intrinsic musical skill, knowledge, understanding and above all the passion and resilience to succeed in this subject.  We also recognise the power and impact music can have on our children’s  emotional, social, personal development and well-being.

Our curriculum

All of our children in the school receive music lessons from our staff and also our specialist music teacher Mr Anderson. Our curriculum aims to give children the opportunity to develop performance, composition and listening skills through exploring a variety of musical styles, traditions and genres and by taking part in a wide range of activities.  In the early years we value the importance of underpinning our specialist music teaching with cross curricular links. In Key Stage One we develop these skills to looking at playing tuned and untuned instruments and in Key stage 2 our children get the opportunity to learn the recorder and keyboard- both of these prove to be very popular. Children also learn to read and develop their knowledge of staff notation and explore different genres of music through creative projects.

Music News

Song Birds-  This year our songbirds are working hard to create another creative and memorable performance to share with the city of Stoke-on-Trent as we prepare to take to the stage at the New Vic theatre Hanley.

Recorders- Our recorder group our practising to take to the stage in our County Recorder Festival, this has proved extremely popular in previous years and we are looking forward to hearing what they have in store for us.

Key Stage One Production-  This year our Key stage one children are putting together our version of “A Christmas Recipe.”  We are very proud of our children and it is a joy to see them sing, act and bring this musical script to life.
